Introducing House of Randall x Bindery
Welcome to House of Randall x Bindery!!!
If you're new to Bindery, it's an incredible platform built by book lovers for book lovers.
Think Substack meets Patreon but ONLY FOR BOOKS! Exclusive content, book clubs, curated book recs, and *drum roll please* no algorithm showing you what it thinks you want to see!
If you're new to me, I'm Breanne Randall! I wrote four books over ten years and received over 500 rejections just trying to get a literary agent. My first book came out in 2023 and I became an instant NYT bestseller after creating a social media marketing plan (with no paid ads) and growing my platform to over 600,000 across IG, TT, and Threads. My publishing journey has been FRAUGHT with ups and downs (most of which I've never discussed publicly). And it's time to pull back the curtain.
Now, what does all that have to do with Bindery, you might be wondering?
Bindery is more than a community, they're actually a collaborative publisher.
Bite sized background: Every big publisher has what are called imprints. For example, Penguin Random House (the largest publisher in the world) has over 300 imprints, each of them focusing on a specific genre or sub genre.
Where Bindery differs is that they work directly with "tastemakers" to create their own imprints. They allow (by invite only) booktokers, bookstagrammers, authors, and influencers who have a pulse on the market and KNOW what their audience loves to become a publisher.
The tastemaker publisher makes a list of what they're looking for and the Bindery team curates a response with submissions from over 300 literary agents (they also have open submissions three times year). If there's something there the tastemaker connects with, they work with Bindery to extend an offer. If the author accepts, the Bindery team handles marketing, editing, book cover design etc. (Have you SEEN their book covers? Their PR boxes? Their socials? Absolutely STUNNING!!!) Their team is filled with editors and designers who have spent literal decades working at the Big 5 publishing houses.
Why this matters...
We know the publishing industry is highly saturated. We know there are some archaic structures in place that are nearly impossible to work around. Traditional publishing is a machine that operates outside of our control in an industry where control is the only thing that offers a semblance of hope.
When I spent ten years querying, the same thought kept running on repeat in my head; I just need one person to see the potential! But most of the time, my queries were being rejected by interns, tossed in a slush pile, and never thought of again. The publishing industry is often overworked, sometimes jaded, and forced to cater to market trends.
What would it be like if we were free of the constraints of traditional publishing? If we could publish the books that DESERVE to be published? If we didn't have to cater to market trends and were able to work directly with authors who keep getting turned down by agents and editors because they "can't see where it fits in the market?"
After speaking with dozens of authors, I created a Substack to teach others how to query, how to market their book, increase their engagement and community. Within 60 days I had thousands of free subscribers and over a hundred paid subscribers. I was in the top ten rising in the Education category. But it wasn't...right. My feed quickly became a cesspool of "how to grow on Substack" and "subscribe to me and I'll subscribe to you." That wasn't the vibe I was looking for.
When Bindery reached out with an invitation to start a community here, I was instantly thrilled. I asked what the parameters were to be considered as a "tastemaker publisher" and was told they're looking for free subscribers in the four digits and paid subscribers in the three digits.
Transparency here is KEY. The publishing industry is known for its murky waters. Full of things you're not "supposed" to talk about like advances, royalties, marketing plans and budgets. There will be no gatekeeping here.
My goal with this community is to build it out in a sustainable way, offering exclusive access, trainings, and content all with the hope to one day become a tastemaker publisher and be able to publish YOUR book. I will be its champion. I will use my platforms to amplify your voice, your dream, your novel. All with Bindery's backing, incredible team, and brilliant marketing and design.
If that sounds like it might be of interest to you, buckle up and become a free or paid subscriber and let's get this ball rolling! I'll be sharing everything from my failures and fears to my book deals and royalty statements along with my tried and true marketing tactics and social media growth strategies.
Thank you SO MUCH for being here, for getting in on the ground floor, and supporting this dream of being able to help other authors on their journey!
